Structure and Uses of DDT, Saccharin, BHC and Chloramine T

Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane has the following chemical formula: C14H9Cl5. This chemical compound has a mass per mole of 354.48 grams.

    DDT

    Structure

    • Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane has the following chemical formula: C14H9Cl5.
    • This chemical compound has a mass per mole of 354.48 grams.
    • Standard conditions would result in a density of approximately 1 gram per cubic centimeter for this compound.
    • Water does not dissolve DDT very well. Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane is soluble in water at 25 degrees Celsius at 25 micrograms per liter.
The chemical compound DDT is an acronym for dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, also known as 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-Chlorophenyl)ethane. It is a highly toxic contact poison for a wide variety of insects and works by disorganizing their nervous system.

Dusts of DDT or sprays of its aqueous suspension are applied as a pesticide. Dusts of DDT or sprays of its aqueous suspension are applied as a pesticide.

    Uses

Malaria and typhus were prevented by widespread use of DDT in the early 1940s. Through its effect on sodium ion channels, DDT stimulates the firing of neurons in insects. It eventually kills the insects by causing them to spasm. Through mutation, insects can, however, become resistant to DDT. Insecticides such as this compound were used extensively to combat diseases such as malaria. The use of this compound has been banned in some countries despite its negative health and environmental impacts.

    Saccharin

    Structure

It is a nonnutritive sweetener. A number of salts — principally sodium and calcium — are present as insoluble saccharin. Sugar can be sweetened about 200-700 times more efficiently with saccharin, which has a metallic taste and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Saccharin is a 1,2-benzisothiazole containing a keto group in the 3 position and two oxo groups in the 1. Artificial sweeteners contain saccharin. It is an environmental contaminant, a xenobiotic, and a sweetening agent. N-Sulfonylcarboxamide and 1,2-benzisothiazole are the components.

    Uses

Saccharin is commonly used to sweeten food without providing any calories. Aspartame, for example, is typically combined with aspartame to counteract the bitter taste. A sugar substitute for cooking and table use, as well as for processed foods, is ok to use saccharin, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Additionally, saccharin is allowed for industrial uses, including:
    • As a flavor enhancer for chewable vitamins and mineral tablets.
    • Chewing gum must retain its taste as well as its physical properties.
    • In bakery products, to improve their taste.

    BHC

    Structure

Benzene hexachloride is shown in the above image. Benzene hexachloride's chemical formula is C6H6Cl6. As a gamma-isomer, benzene hexachloride has been shown to be human carcinogenic. Carbon, hydrogen, and chlorine make up six atoms in benzene hexachloride.

    Uses

    • Benzene hexachloride is used in forestry, agriculture, and for treatment of seeds.
    • Lice on the head and body can be treated with it.
    • In pharmaceuticals, it serves as an antimicrobial agent.
    • Scabies is treated with it.
    • The ingredient is found in shampoos.

    Chloramine T

    Structure

The organic sodium salt of chloramine T is a chloro substituted amino hydrogen toluene-4-sulfonamide. As a biocide, a disinfectant, and an allergen, it acts as an antifouling agent. There is a chloro(p-tolylsulfonyl)azanide in this substance.

    Uses

Sodium salt of chloramine T is made up of a chloro substituent in place of an amino hydrogen in toluene-4-sulfonamide. As a biocide, a disinfectant, and an allergen, it acts as an antifouling agent.
