Preparation and Standardization of 0.1 M Potassium Hydroxide

Learn how to prepare and standardize 0.1 M Potassium Hydroxide using Hydrochloric acid Phenolphthalein solution as indicator.

Preparation of Solution

  • Dissolve about 6 g of potassium hydroxide in the sufficient carbon dioxide free water to produce 1000 ml.
  • Standardize the solution in the following manner.

Standardization of Solution

  • Titrate 20.0 ml of the solution with 0.1 M hydrochloric acid using 0.5 ml of phenolphthalein solution as indicator.
  • 1 ml of 0.1 M hydrochloric acid is equivalent to 0.005611 g of KOH.
