SOP for Handling of Glassware

1.0 OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for handling of glassware.

2.0 SCOPE

This SOP is applicable for the procedure for handling of glassware.

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 New glassware received should be checked for appropriateness. In case of any broken glassware the same should be returned to the supplier.
5.2 Store the glassware in “Chemical glassware cupboard”.
5.3 Issue the glassware as and when required.
5.4 Instruct the person using and cleaning the glassware to handle it carefully to avoid any breakage.
5.5 In case of any breakage of glassware the same should be destroyed.
5.6 The glassware should be checked for any breakage after drying and broken glassware should be destroyed.
5.7 Glassware, which requires calibration, should be calibrated at the time of issuance and before use.
5.8 All volumetric glassware should be calibrated as per SOP of glassware calibration or use only class ‘A’ certified glassware by manufacturer.
5.9 Enter the results in the record and take approval of authorized person.
5.10 Before signing the record, authorized person should ensure that calibration is done as per standard procedure and results obtained are well within limit.
5.11 Keep all Grade ‘A’ Borosil glassware, labeled and in segregated cupboard.
