SOP for Inventory and Issuance of Media

Standard operating procedure of management of inventory and issuance of microbiological media in laboratory.

1.0 OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for inventory and issuance of media in quality control.

2.0 SCOPE

This SOP is applicable for inventory and issuance of media in quality control laboratory.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

Microbiologist - Quality Control
Deputy Manager - Quality Control

4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY

Manager - Quality Control

6.0 PROCEDURE

6.1 Inventory of media stock

6.1.1 Maintain stock of minimum one bottle of media in the laboratory.
6.1.2 Put on the following label on each bottle.

Date Received/By:
Opened on/By:
Use before:
6.1.3 Put on the stock of media received in media inventory and issuance record as per Annexure – I
6.1.4 Fill the complete requirement of record.
6.1.5 Check the storage condition of media 20°C to 25°C/ 2°C to 8°C or as manufacture instructions
6.1.6 Put the media at a proper place which is specified for storage of media.

6.2 Issuance of Media

6.2.1 Issuance of media shall be controlled by laboratory by maintaining the record of issuance and reconciliation record.
6.2.2 Before issuance of a new bottle to laboratory check the media reconciliation record.
6.2.3 If the media stock is nil as reconciliation and physically then issue a new bottle of media for use.
6.2.4 At the time of issue check the balance stock, raise new indent of media to maintain the balance stock if required.
6.2.5 Maintain the record of issuance and reconciliation as per Annexure –I and II
