Structure and Uses of Acetic acid, Lactic acid, Tartaric acid

These compounds, which have the formula CH3COOH, are found in organic compounds. Carbonyl groups are attached to methyl groups on carboxylic acids.

Acetic acid

Structure

These compounds, which have the formula CH3COOH, are found in organic compounds. Carbonyl groups are attached to methyl groups on carboxylic acids. IUPAC's systematic name for acetic acid is ethanoic acid, whose chemical formula is C2H4O2. In vinegar, acetic acid is dissolved in water, and there is between 5% and 20% ethanol in it by volume. The acetic acid is composed of acetic acid, a pungent and sour chemical compound. Acids that have not been diluted with water are referred to as ice-cold acetic acid. Substances form crystals like ice at temperatures below 16.6oC. Solvents polar, protic in nature have a wide range of applications. A common application of glacial acetic acid in analytical chemistry is to estimate weakly alkaline substances.

Uses

Our everyday lives are impacted by ethanolic acid on a very deep level as humans. There are many uses for acetic acid in our daily lives.
  • The antibacterial properties of acetic acid make it an antiseptic.
  • Fabrics made from rayon fibre are made with ethanolic acid.
  • The treatment of cancer with acetic acid by a direct injection into the tumor is known in medicine.
  • It is used in the pickling of many vegetables since it is the major constituent of vinegar.
  • Rubber is made from a chemical compound called ethanolic acid. There are also perfumes made with this chemical compound.
  • In the production of vinyl acetate monomer, this compound is widely used.
  • A condensation reaction forms acetic anhydride when two acetic acid molecules join together.

Lactic acid

Structure

Lactic acid is composed of the chemical formula C3H6O3. The term milk acid is also applied to lactic acid. When milk sugar (lactose) is exposed to oxygen, it ferments into lactic acid. This enzyme is found in a number of different foods, including Lebanese, cottage cheese, yogurt, sour milk, and koumiss. The optical isomers of lactic acid include levo and dextro. Karl Wilhelm Scheele is credited with the discovery of lactic acid in 1780, after isolating it from sour milk. This compound dissolves in water as a white solid that takes on no color when it is liquid, and does not take on any color when it is solid.

Uses

  • A variety of foods and pharmaceuticals use it 
  • to manufacture plastics
  • The coagulation of milk proteins is helped by it
  • Dyeing textiles and tanning leather use it
  • Traumatic brain injury can be treated with lactate after healing
  • Norepinephrine is released in the brain when lactate is present

Tartaric acid

Structure

Citrus fruits, tamarinds, and grapes are among the many foods containing tartaric acid, such as bananas and grapes. Racemic acid or dihydroxy succinic acid may also be referred to as dihydroxy succinic acid. It can also produce other products besides carbon dioxide. It is a white crystallized form of diprotic Alderic acid. The pharmaceutical industry makes extensive use of it. Tartaric acid, when consumed in excess, can cause paralysis.

Uses

  • By adding it to oral medications, its flavor can be improved
  • Calcium and magnesium can be chelated with the substance
  • Baking soda and baking powder are combined in recipes as leavening agents
  • This compound has anti-oxidant properties which make it useful
  • Among its most important components, this acid is found in wine
  • Among its most important components, this acid is found in wine
  • There may sometimes be vomiting associated with it
  • Silver is used as a material to make mirrors
  • It is used as an ester in textile dyes
  • The tanning agent is used to produce leather
  • These are the ingredients in candy
  • The cream form is used for stabilizing foods
